Current NewsJuly 17, 2008Well, I spent my stimulus check on components for a brand new Core 2 Duo computer! Not that my old P4 couldn't hack it anymore, but gee, I've had that since 2003 and it was time for something new! The Losertown DAW remains the Athlon64 3000 workstation. May 26, 2008
Looking forward to Hancock opening in July. And, I just wanted to see how this widget looks on my page. April 20, 2008I just got back from a great solo show by Marshall Crenshaw at Jammin' Java in Vienna Virginia. Marshall was in fine form tonight, playing a Guild electric hollowbody. I'm not sure what model it was, but it only had one pickup. He played a nice mix of old and new, including some covers of Johnny Paycheck, Statler Brothers, and of course, Buddy Holly. I think he is really overlooked by the public as a fantastic guitarist. One thing I couldn't help but noticed--the audienced looked, well, rather old. I guess that means I'm getting old, too. March 5, 2008Sometimes I lose track of an artist that I'm a fan of, and then I'll Google his name and find out all this stuff has happened. I was thinking of Freedy Johnston and found out that he released a few CDs since I last bought Never Home, so I bought his 2001 release Right Between the Promises and a covers CD, My Favorite Waste of Time, and I'm listening to it right now and it is fantastic. You should order your own copy on his website. He's going to release a new CD this year. Which leads me to this thought. I actually successfully complete FAWM 2008 (you can check out the 14 demos at www.fawm.org)! But--every time I listen to a great artist like Freedy Johnston, it makes me feel like crap because I can't even tie my shoes right and it makes me wonder why I even bother thinking that I can write a song worth anything. Then I eat a Big Mac and I feel okay again. A Big Mac makes everything okay! February 10, 2008Well, I'm trying my hand at FAWM again. FAWM is February Album Writing Month. It seems like it shouldn't be too hard to write a song every other day, but I'm behind already. I've got four songs written, and at this point it should be five. Last year I came away with seven songs, but none of them were useable really. This year I'm trying to approach FAWM in a more serious manner and not write jokey songs just so I can "win," but I've already written two songs that are borderline jokey. The idea is to use this as a springboard for the new CD, which I told myself that I would put out in 2008 as my grand masterpiece. Ha! We'll see. January 8, 2008I almost typed 2007 instead of 2008. Happy (late) New Year! I still haven't gotten around to transfering the website to the new template. It really needs it because the current site looks mighty crappy. But I'm lazy. I'll be lazy until they put me six feet under. I've been listening to a lot of Mandopop lately (as you can see from the What's in Anomie Train's CD Player). It can sometimes be sappy, but they are almost always really catchy. Plus, I always feel happy when I listen to it. Maybe it has something to do with not understanding 90% of it. I have noticed one thing--a lot of the songs have weird endings. They just kind of end. |
